The Appomattox County Raiders will challenge the Floyd County Buffaloes at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Appomattox County is coming into the game hot, having won their last six games.
Appomattox County is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Thursday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand James River a 2-0 shutout.
James River's batters probably weren't too happy with Owen Chavis, who pitched a no hitter and racked up ten Ks (he gave up zero walks). Chavis has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Appomattox County saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jack Wilkerson, who went 2-for-3 with one run.
Meanwhile, Floyd County had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They walked away with a 5-2 victory over Nelson County on Thursday.
Aiden Bakely was incredible, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, one triple, and two RBI. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in April. Adam Petty was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.
Appomattox County's win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 16-6. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Floyd County, their win bumped their record up to 15-11.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Appomattox County has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.4 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Floyd County struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 8.9 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Appomattox County came out on top in a nail-biter against Floyd County when the teams last played back in June of 2021, sneaking past 9-8. Will the Raiders repeat their success, or do the Buffaloes have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
