Mercedes and Donna are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2019, but not for long. The Mercedes Tigers will head out on the road to take on the Donna Redskins at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Mercedes is looking to tack on another W to their six-game streak on the road.
In what's become a running theme this season, Mercedes gave their fans yet another huge victory on Wednesday. They took their contest on the road with ease, bagging a 63-27 win over Porter. Given Mercedes' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 494th, while Porter is ranked 1422nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Leah Adame and Jaymie Flores were among the main playmakers for Mercedes as the former scored 14 points along with seven rebounds and five steals and the latter scored 19 points along with eight steals. Adame continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Alyna Gonzalez, who scored six points along with seven rebounds and four steals.
Donna suffered their biggest defeat since December 15, 2023 on Friday. They were beaten by Veterans Memorial 66-22. Donna was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 38-12.
Mercedes has been performing well recently as they've won eight of their last ten contests, which provided a nice bump to their 19-8 record this season. As for Donna, their loss dropped their record down to 8-17.
Everything came up roses for Mercedes against Donna in their previous matchup back in December of 2023 as the team secured a 60-15 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Mercedes since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
