Warren extended their losing streak to five on Friday, dropping them down to 1-6. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 6-5 heartbreaker at the hands of the Corry Beavers. The Dragons were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Beavers earlier this season, when they won 8-3.
David Manning put in work while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off six hits (and only one walk). Manning was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run. That stolen base marked the first that he has snagged this season.
In other batting news, Broc Bryan made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. That stolen base was his first of the season.
As for Corry, their win ended a six-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 4-6. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory they have posted since March 24th.
Like Warren, Corry also got a great game from a two-way player: Wyatt Swan. On the mound, he tossed 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Swan also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Corry is 2-1 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 2-5 otherwise. Swan was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.
Swan wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Jeremiah Johnson, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.
Coming up, Warren will welcome Harbor Creek at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Huskies' pitching crew has only allowed 3.6 runs per game this season, so the Dragons' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Corry, they will venture away from home to challenge Northwestern at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
