The North Star Huskies fought the good fight in their overtime contest against the Notus Pirates on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell 49-42 to the Pirates. While losing is never fun, North Star can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Idaho basketball rankings (they are ranked 107th, while Notus is ranked 30th).
Blake Hansen and Milt Pettit certainly did their best on Thursday to try and avoid the loss. Hansen scored 21 points along with nine rebounds and three steals, while Pettit scored four points along with 13 rebounds. The match was Hansen's fourth in a row with at least ten points.
Even though they lost, North Star were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Benny Guevara was his usual excellent self, scoring 27 points along with four steals for Notus. Those 27 points set a new season-high mark for him. Korbin Hilbert was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with ten rebounds.
North Star's defeat dropped their record down to 1-3. As for Notus, they pushed their record up to 3-1 with that victory, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season.
Coincidentally, the pair will both be playing Riverstone International the next time they take the court. North Star will host Riverstone International at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, while Notus will head out to face them at 7:30 p.m. on December 19th.
