After flying high against the Stella High Charter Academy Eagles last Monday, the Middle College Cougars came back down to earth. Middle College fell 52-44 to the Eagles on Wednesday. Middle College was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Eagles apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in December of 2023.
When it comes to explaining why Middle College lost, one person who can't be blamed is Lebron Hasan. Despite the final result, he scored 16 points along with five rebounds and two blocks. It was the first time this season that Hasan posted two or more blocks. Amanze Njoku was another key contributor, scoring six points along with five rebounds and two blocks.
New West Charter's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Armon Behikeesh, who scored 19 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Liam Hakimi, who scored 14 points.
Middle College's loss was their fifth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 5-9. As for New West Charter, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 11-5.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Middle College will take on the Panthers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Animo South Los Angeles comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 25 points in their last four games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse. As for New West Charter, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against the Eagles at 4:30 p.m. Stella High Charter Academy is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'.
