Durham Academy has enjoyed a three-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will square off against the Northern Durham Knights at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Durham Academy focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 19 on Saturday.
Last Saturday, things could have been worse for Durham Academy, but they could have been a whole lot better as they took a 69-50 loss to Providence Day. Durham Academy has struggled against Providence Day recently, as their matchup on Saturday was their third consecutive lost matchup.
Durham Academy's defeat came about despite a quality game from Amare Burrus, who scored 17 points. JJ Wilcox was another key contributor, scoring 10 points along with 3 steals.
Meanwhile, Northern Durham's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight loss. Their tough 69-47 loss to Granville Central might stick with them for a while.
Durham Academy bumped their record down to 4-4 with that defeat, which was their third straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.0 points per game. As for Northern Durham, their loss dropped their record down to 0-3.
Durham Academy beat Northern Durham 60-49 in their previous matchup back in December of 2022. The rematch might be a little tougher for Durham Academy since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
