The Zion Christian Academy Eagles will head out on the road to face off against the Community Vikings/Viqueens at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Zion Christian Academy is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.1 runs per game this season.
Zion Christian Academy might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 4-3 to Lawrence County, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. The Eagles have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Leighla Rains made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Community entered their tilt with Cascade on Tuesday with ten consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with 11. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Champions 2-0.
Cascade's batters probably weren't too happy with Annie Prince, who pitched a no hitter and racked up 19 Ks (she gave up two walks). Prince has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in 12 consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Mattie Maxey was excellent, going 1-for-2 with one home run.
Community hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Cascade struck out 19 times.
Community's victory was their 14th straight at home, which pushed their record up to 22-2-2. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.8 runs on average over those games. As for Zion Christian Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 12-8.
Monday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Zion Christian Academy hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .318. However, it's not like Community struggles in that department as they've averaged .372. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Zion Christian Academy might still be hurting after the 11-1 defeat they got from Community when the teams last played back in March. Can the Eagles avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
