Modesto Christian has enjoyed the comforts of home their last three games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will square off against the San Joaquin Memorial Panthers at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Modesto Christian posted their biggest win since December 20, 2023 on Wednesday. They breezed by West at home to the tune of 66-29. Given Modesto Christian's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 40th, while West is ranked 313th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Modesto Christian got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Elijah Payne out in front who scored 14 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Payne has scored all season. Gavin Sykes was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with five rebounds.
Meanwhile, San Joaquin Memorial had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 20 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They blew past Madera, posting a 81-54 victory on the road. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win San Joaquin Memorial has posted against Madera since May 12, 2021.
Modesto Christian's win bumped their record up to 14-3. As for San Joaquin Memorial, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a nice bump to their 14-7 record this season.
Modesto Christian strolled past San Joaquin Memorial in their previous matchup back in November of 2021 by a score of 87-71. Will Modesto Christian repeat their success, or does San Joaquin Memorial have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
