On Thursday, the St. Joseph-by-the-Sea Vikings faced the Moore Catholic Mavericks in a battle between two of the state's top teams. St. Joseph-by-the-Sea put the hurt on the Mavericks with a sharp 58-36 victory. St. Joseph-by-the-Sea has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six matchups by 22 points or more this season.
Moore Catholic lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Emma Costanzo, who scored eight points along with six rebounds and two steals. Another player making a difference was Brianna Caliri, who scored ten points along with two blocks.
St. Joseph-by-the-Sea pushed their record up to 15-4 with that win, which was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 71.3 points per game. As for Moore Catholic, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-4.
St. Joseph-by-the-Sea will take on the Hilltoppers at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. St. Joseph Hill Academy is coming into the game hot, having won their last eight games. Moore Catholic's road trip will continue as they head out to face the Tigers at 1:45 p.m. on February 4th. Maria Regina will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps New York Rankings (they are ranked 150th, while the Mavericks are ranked 20th).
