Ella McAdams was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with five stolen bases and one run. She has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last five times she's played.
Meanwhile, it can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Hilliard had no problem doing just that on Monday. They never let the Tigers get on the board and left with an 18-0 win. The Red Flashes' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Nevaeh Brown was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Brown was even better at the plate, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with five stolen bases and two runs. Those five stolen bases gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Reagan Crews was incredible, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with six stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Those six stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Peighton Self, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with three stolen bases and one run.
Hilliard always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .846. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Hilliard has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-13 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.4 runs over those games. As for Lafayette, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-12.
Lafayette's speedy runners might be the difference in Tuesday's game. The Hornets have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.1 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Hilliard, though, as they've been averaging only 0.8 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Lafayette continue to outrun the ball?
Lafayette came out on top in a nail-biter against Hilliard when the teams last played back in May of 2019, sneaking past 5-4. Do the Hornets have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Red Flashes turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
