The Deep Creek Hornets will challenge the Ocean Lakes Dolphins at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Ocean Lakes will be up against a hot Deep Creek squad: the team just extended their winning streak to nine. Deep Creek took their game on Tuesday with ease, bagging a 69-14 win over Lakeland. Given the Hornets' advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 17th, while the Cavaliers are ranked 203rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Deep Creek's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Alaya Monroe, who posted nine points and five rebounds. Morgan Herbert was another key player, putting up ten points and five boards.
Deep Creek was working as a unit and finished the game with 13 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Lakeland only two assists.
Meanwhile, Ocean Lakes blew past Bayside, posting a 64-14 win. Winning may never get old, but the Dolphins sure are getting used to it with their fourth in a row.
Deep Creek better focus on containing Maddi Fisher and Samara Williams as the pair were huge in Ocean Lakes' win. Fisher earned 12 points and six steals, while Williams scored 14 points. That's the most points Fisher has posted since back in December of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Kennedy Walls, who had four points.
Deep Creek pushed their record up to 18-5 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. Those victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 28.2 points over those games. As for Ocean Lakes, their win bumped their record up to 13-8.
Everything came up roses for Deep Creek against Ocean Lakes in their previous matchup back in January of 2023, as the squad secured a 63-29 victory. Will Deep Creek repeat their success, or does Ocean Lakes have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
