Highline hasn't had much luck against Sammamish recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. Highline will head out to square off against Sammamish at 7:00 p.m. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Highline is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They put the hurt on Renton with a sharp 24-2 win on Monday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Pirates considering their two-run performance the match before.
Roman Easter made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He struck out seven batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off six hits (and not a single walk). Easter was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring five runs and stealing two bases while going 5-for-5. He also brought in four RBI, marking his first of the season.
In other batting news, Josiah JoJo Barron was a standout: he scored four runs and stole three bases while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Zennin Luiz, who scored three runs and stole three bases while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.
Highline always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .690. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, on Monday Sammamish's undefeated season almost came to an end. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 2-1 W against Redmond. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the RedHawks have posted since April 8, 2024.
Sammamish's win was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Jack Lansdowne, who went 1-for-2 with one RBI.
Sammamish's victory was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 5-0. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.1 runs over those games. As for Highline, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-5.
Wednesday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Highline has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .437. However, it's not like Sammamish struggles in that department as they've averaged .525. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Highline came up short against Sammamish when the teams last played back in May of 2024, falling 8-4. Can Highline avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
