The Columbine Rebels's 15-game losing streak came to an end on Friday. They snuck past Chatfield with a 64-58 victory. That looming 64-58 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for Columbine yet this season.
Columbine found their leader in underclassman Cash Boykin, who scored 21 points along with seven rebounds and four steals. Boykin hasn't dropped below 15points for three straight games. Matthew Kossik was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with three steals.
Defeat or not, Chatfield got some senior leadership from Tony Rondinelli and Liam Mcguire. Rondinelli scored 15 points, while Mcguire. scored 13 points. Rondinelli has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Creighton Chaney, who scored five points.
Columbine's win ended a seven-game drought at home and bumped them up to 1-13. As for Chatfield, their loss was their fifth straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 2-12.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Columbine's homestand continues as they prepare to take on Grandview at 7:00 p.m. on January 22nd. Grandview presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Columbine in Colorado (Grandview is ranked 102nd, while Columbine is ranked 244th). As for Chatfield, they will be playing at home against Bear Creek at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Bear Creek and Chatfield are at an even 5-5 over their past ten head-to-heads.
