De Kalb has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will square off against the Pewitt Brahmas at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. De Kalb will be strutting in after a victory while Pewitt will be coming in after a loss.
Last Friday, De Kalb didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against New Boston, but they still walked away with a 45-40 victory. 45 seems to be a good number for De Kalb as the squad scooped up a victory with the same number of points in their previous game.
Pewitt suffered their biggest defeat since December 5, 2023 on Saturday. They were beaten by Hooks 73-43. While losing is never fun, Pewitt can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1255th, while Hooks is ranked 150th).
Despite their defeat, Pewitt saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Ethan Shaddix, who scored 12 points, was perhaps the best of all. Gage Smith was another key contributor, scoring four points.
De Kalb pushed their record up to 10-7 with that victory, which was their fourth straight at home. As for Pewitt, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost nine of their last 11 matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-16 record this season.
Everything came up roses for De Kalb against Pewitt when the teams last played back in December of 2023 as the team secured a 59-32 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for De Kalb since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
