In what's become a running theme this season, St. Mary's-Colgan gave their fans yet another huge win on Tuesday. They blew past Baxter Springs, posting a 55-9 victory on the road. Given St. Mary's-Colgan's advantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 47th, while the Lions are ranked 340th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Meanwhile, Columbus earned a 45-38 win over the Rams on Tuesday. The victory was just what Columbus needed coming off of a 57-34 defeat in their prior game.
Columbus' win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ellie Helms, who scored 20 points along with three steals. Helms hasn't dropped below two steals for nine straight games. Brylie Johnson was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with four steals.
St. Mary's-Colgan's record now sits at 15-0. As for Columbus, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 7-6 record this season.
Everything came up roses for St. Mary's-Colgan against the Titans when the teams last played back in December of 2023 as the squad secured a 67-32 victory. With St. Mary's-Colgan ahead 43-13 at the half, the contest was all but over already.
