D'Iberville is 2-8 against Biloxi since December of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The D'Iberville Warriors will be playing at home against the Biloxi Indians at 6:00 p.m. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
Last Friday, D'Iberville came up short against St. Martin and fell 52-41. D'Iberville has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Despite their defeat, D'Iberville saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Lalysia Evans, who scored nine points, was perhaps the best of all. Anayah Towner was another key contributor, scoring 11 points.
Meanwhile, Biloxi faced Harrison Central in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Biloxi took a 41-36 hit to the loss column at the hands of Harrison Central.
Despite the loss, Biloxi saw an underclassman step up: Zaniya Johnson scored eight points along with 13 rebounds and five blocks. Johnson has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last six times she's played. Another player making a difference was Aubrey Hill, who scored eight points along with three steals.
D'Iberville's loss ended a six-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 10-9. As for Biloxi, their defeat dropped their record down to 19-4.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: D'Iberville have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 23.1 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Biloxi, though, as they've been averaging only 25.9 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
D'Iberville ended up a good deal behind Biloxi in their previous matchup back in December of 2023, losing 38-23. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Johnson, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 12 rebounds.
