Blackwell hasn't had much luck against Crossings Christian recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Maroons will head out on the road to square off against the Knights at 5:30 p.m. Blackwell has given up an average of 9.6 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Things were looking good for Blackwell after they put the first runs on the board on Monday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They lost 15-7 to Chisholm. While the Maroons didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Longhorns 4-0 in the first period.
Blackwell saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Andrew Young, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4. Another was Tanner Ward, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.
Meanwhile, Crossings Christian entered their tilt with Perry on Tuesday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They came out on top against the Maroons by a score of 8-5.
Maddox Turner made a splash while hitting and pitching. He pitched five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. Turner was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with two RBI.
In other batting news, Jake Robison and Benjamin Staton did most of the damage at the plate: Robison got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Staton scored three runs while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Staton has become a key player for Crossings Christian: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 8-11 otherwise. Alex Foraker also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
Crossings Christian was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. The last time their batting average was this high was back in March.
The victory got Crossings Christian back to even at 11-11. As for Blackwell, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-14.
Blackwell couldn't quite get it done against Crossings Christian in their previous matchup back in March as they fell 7-3. Can the Maroons avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
