The Cadillac Vikings put another one in the bag on Thursday to keep their perfect season alive. They walked away with a 59-47 win over Gaylord. Given Cadillac's advantage in MaxPreps' Michigan basketball rankings (they are ranked 15th, while Gaylord is ranked 284th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
When it comes to explaining why Gaylord lost, one person who can't be blamed is Luke Gelow. Despite the final result, he scored 36 points along with five rebounds. That was a full 76.6% of Gaylord's points, marking the tenth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Cayden Keck, who scored nine points along with seven rebounds and three steals.
Gaylord struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only an offensive rebound. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Cadillac's win was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 9-0. As for Gaylord, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-6.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Cadillac will take on Big Rapids at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Gaylord, they will head out on the road to take on St.Ignace at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday. St.Ignace knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past eight games -- so hopefully Gaylord likes a good challenge.
