The Grapevine Mustangs will head out on the road to square off against the Ryan Raiders at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: both teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Even though Grapevine has not done well against Birdville recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Grapevine snuck past Birdville with a 77-72 victory. The victory was all the more spectacular given Grapevine's disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 550th, while Birdville is ranked 123rd).
David Coe continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 37 points along with seven assists and six rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Matthew E woodcock, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 12 rebounds.
Meanwhile, Ryan had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6.7 points), and they went ahead and made it four on Friday. They came out on top against Lake Dallas by a score of 59-52. That's two games straight that Ryan has won by exactly seven points.
Grapevine's win ended a five-game drought at home and bumped them up to 9-17. As for Ryan, they pushed their record up to 14-8 with that win, which was their third straight at home.
Grapevine came up short against Ryan in their previous meeting back in December of 2023, falling 56-47. Can Grapevine avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
