After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Vienna, the Trico Pioneers were happy to have found some success on Tuesday. They managed a 37-31 win over Sparta. That's another feather in the cap for Trico, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Trico's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Whitney Lovel led the charge by scoring 16 points. Taylor Cottom was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with seven rebounds.
Despite the loss, Sparta still got an impressive performance from Kenzie Pierce, who scored 17 points along with four steals. Pierce is trending in the right direction, as she's improved her point production for three games straight. Another player making a difference was Ruthie Pillers, who scored five points along with seven rebounds.
Trico's win bumped their record up to 9-13. As for Sparta, they dropped their record down to 5-16 with that loss, which was their third straight at home.
Trico will take on the Indians at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Johnston City is coming into the contest hot, having won their last five games. As for Sparta, they will head out on the road to challenge the Rockets at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday. Okawville presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than the Bulldogs in Illinois (the Rockets are ranked 83rd, while the Bulldogs are ranked 563rd).
