Dundee-Crown hasn't had much luck against Huntley recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Chargers will host the Red Raiders at 4:30 p.m. Dundee-Crown has given up an average of 8 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Dundee-Crown is headed into Wednesday's match looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fifth straight game on Monday. They lost 15-0 to Hampshire. The shutout was out of character for the Chargers seeing as the last time the team failed to score was back in March.
Meanwhile, Huntley entered their tilt with Central on Tuesday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Rockets a 6-0 shutout. The Red Raiders might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 13 games by six runs or more this season.
The result came thanks to Gretchen Huber's shutout, as she gave up just two hits and racked up six Ks. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Sadie Svendsen, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. Ava McFadden was another key player, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run.
Huntley hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five batters in 13 consecutive contests.
Huntley's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 21-12. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for Dundee-Crown, their loss dropped their record down to 8-19.
Wednesday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Dundee-Crown hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .316. However, it's not like Huntley struggles in that department as they've averaged .352. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Dundee-Crown couldn't quite finish off Huntley in their previous matchup back in April and fell 4-2. Will the Chargers have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other softball content.
