Softball Game Preview: Apopka Blue Darters vs. Mount Dora Hurricanes

The Apopka Blue Darters will head out to take on the Mount Dora Hurricanes at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Mount Dora took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Apopka, who comes in off a win.

While Blue Darters fans will have to keep waiting for their squad to come home, they shouldn't be too worried about the road trip considering the result of Friday's season opener. They put the hurt on Lake Mary with a sharp 11-1 win on Friday. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory the Blue Darters have posted against the Rams since April 15, 2021.

Apopka got a great performance from Ava Millspaugh as she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over five innings pitched. Those six strikeouts gave Millspaugh a new career-high.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Hagan Mcgatlin, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in RBI. Taylor Smith was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

Apopka always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .576. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Lake Mary only posted an OBP of .211.

Meanwhile, Mount Dora was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They came up short against Winter Springs, falling 15-0. The matchup marked the first time this season in which the Hurricanes were not able to get on the board.

Everything went Apopka's way against Mount Dora in their previous matchup back in March of 2016, as Apopka made off with a 14-4 win. Does Apopka have another victory up their sleeve, or will Mount Dora turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
