Basketball Game Preview: Washington County Panthers vs. Perquimans Pirates

Washington County is 10-0 against Perquimans since January of 2020 and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The Washington County Panthers will face off against the Perquimans Pirates at 7:30 p.m. Washington County is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 68.1 points per game this season.

Last Monday, Washington County was able to grind out a solid victory over Deep Creek, taking the game 71-58. Given the Panthers' advantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 125th in North Carolina, while the Hornets are ranked 281st in Virginia), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

It was another big night for Brandon Carter Jr., who dropped a double-double on 27 points and 11 boards. He is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last 15 games he's played dating back to last season. Another player making a difference was Christian Phelps, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 19 rebounds.

Washington County smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 27 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in three consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Perquimans was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their ninth straight defeat. They were beaten by Bertie 80-49.

Perquimans' loss dropped their record down to 2-15. As for Washington County, their record is now 10-1.

Everything came up roses for Washington County against Perquimans in their previous meeting on January 7th, as the team secured a 73-46 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Washington County since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
