The Hanna Golden Eagles''s recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their seventh straight loss. They took a serious blow against Weslaco, falling 44-6. While losing is never fun, Hanna can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 870th, while Weslaco is ranked 326th).
When it comes to explaining why Hanna lost, one person who can't be blamed is Mario Garcia . Despite the final result, he rushed for 101 yards and a touchdown on only 11 carries. Garcia was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 52 yards.
Even if they lost, Hanna's defensive line still kept up the pressure with three sacks. Leading the way was Nicolas Woo and his two sacks.
Weslaco was led to victory by Andres Sepulveda and Elias Rodriguez jr. Sepulveda threw for 136 yards and two touchdowns while completing 87.5% of his passes, while Rodriguez jr rushed for 142 yards and two touchdowns on only six carries. Weslaco also got help from Francisco Trevino who showed off his sure hands for 94 receiving yards.
Hanna's defeat was their fifth straight on the road, which dropped their overall record down to 1-8. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 12.2 points per game. As for Weslaco, the win for they keeps them at an undefeated 9-0.
Hanna will look to defend their home field on Friday against Rivera at 7:30 p.m. Rivera comes in on a streak of failing to score more than ten points in their last four games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse. As for Weslaco, they will head out on the road to face off against San Benito at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. San Benito is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
