Baseball Game Preview: Omaha Central Eagles vs. Omaha Northwest Huskies

Omaha Central is 9-1 against Omaha Northwest since March of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Eagles will head out to take on the Huskies at 4:30 p.m. Omaha Central will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each game than the last.

Omaha Central took a loss when they played away from home on Saturday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Monday. They came out on top against Lincoln North Star by a score of 9-4. The victory was some much needed relief for the Eagles as it spelled an end to their five-game losing streak.

Blake Demman made a big impact no matter where he played. He pitched three innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. What's more, he posted three strikeouts, the most he's had over his last seven matchups. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run and two runs. Omaha Central is 4-1 when Demman posts two or more runs, but 4-10 otherwise.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ethan Ferguson, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one stolen base and one run. Luke Neujahr was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Omaha Central always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .528. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, it was a classic North v. South duel when Omaha Northwest took on Elkhorn South on Monday. The Huskies lost 16-0 to the Storm. The Huskies have struggled against the Storm recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive lost meeting.

Omaha Northwest's loss dropped their record down to 3-11. As for Omaha Central, their record now sits at 8-11.

Omaha Central couldn't quite finish off Omaha Northwest when the teams last played back in April of 2023 and fell 9-7. Can the Eagles avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
