Breyona Demora spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on six hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Laila McCulloch was incredible, going 1-for-3 with one home run and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Taylor Williams, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.
Meanwhile, it's playoff time, and Thomaston had no trouble coming through when it counted. Everything went their way against Vinal RVT on Monday as they made off with a 24-1 win. The Bears might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten games by six runs or more this season.
Sloan Walmsley was a major factor no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 13 over five innings pitched. Walmsley was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs, two stolen bases, and three RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted over her last ten contests.
In other batting news, Jackie Phillips and Addison Patchell did most of the damage at the plate: Phillips went 2-for-5 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs, while Patchell went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple. That's the most hits Patchell has posted since back in April. Brie Beaudoin was another key player, going 4-for-5 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Thomaston always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .595. They are a perfect 9-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
St. Paul Catholic is on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 21-3 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Thomaston, their win ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 13-9.
Wednesday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. St. Paul Catholic has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .526. However, it's not like Thomaston struggles in that department as they've averaged .457. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
