Ponderosa is 1-8 against Mountain Vista since January of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Ponderosa Mustangs' road trip will continue as they head out to face the Mountain Vista Golden Eagles at 5:30 p.m. on February 9th.
Last Tuesday, Ponderosa took a serious blow against Rock Canyon, falling 78-28. While losing is never fun, Ponderosa can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 152nd, while Rock Canyon is ranked 23rd).
Meanwhile, you can't lose the matchup if you win every quarter, and that was precisely Mountain Vista's strategy against Heritage on Tuesday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Mountain Vista blew Heritage out of the water with a 83-28 final score. The contest was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point Mountain Vista had established a 39 point advantage.
Grace Roscoe and Kennedy Spellman were among the main playmakers for Mountain Vista as the former dropped a double-double on 24 points and 14 rebounds and the latter went 6 for 12 from beyond the arc en route to 36 points and 6 assists. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Spellman has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Arianna Akey, who scored four points along with four steals.
Ponderosa has not been sharp recently as the team's lost seven of their last eight games, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-15 record this season. As for Mountain Vista, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 8-11.
Ponderosa was taken down by Mountain Vista 76-31 when the teams last played back in February of 2023. The game was all but decided by halftime, at which point Ponderosa was down 45-22.
