High Point Central is 0-9 against Rockingham County since March of 2022 but things could change on Wednesday. The Bison are taking a road trip to take on the Cougars at 6:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
High Point Central took a 11-run loss the last time they faced off against Atkins, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Bison had just enough and edged out the Camels 15-14 on Tuesday. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last three times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Meanwhile, Rockingham County had already won 16 in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 11.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it 17 on Friday. They didn't even let the Camels on the board, marking their second-straight 15-0 shutout. Considering the Cougars have won 15 matchups by more than eight runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Ava Grace Pruitt made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up a single earned run in nine consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Rockingham County got a massive performance out of Kennidy Kirby, who went 2-for-3 with two triples, two runs, and two RBI. Those two triples gave Kirby a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Zoey Snead, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, one triple, and one double.
Rockingham County pushed their record up to 18-1 with the win, which was their eighth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.5 runs on average over those games. As for High Point Central, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a massive bump to their 8-9 record this season.
High Point Central might still be hurting after the 17-0 defeat they got from Rockingham County in their previous meeting on April 8th. Can the Bison avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
