The Hudson Cobras will square off against the Gulf Buccaneers at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hudson is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.1 runs per game this season.
Hudson took a loss when they played away from home two weeks ago, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Anclote a 17-0 shutout. The Cobras haven't had any issues with the Sharks recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive victory against them.
Ashley Anderson made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. That stolen base was her first of the season.
In other batting news, Hudson got a big performance out of Bella Veraldi, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. Alivia Evans was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three stolen bases and two runs.
Hudson kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in six consecutive games.
Meanwhile, with a playoff win on the line, Gulf rose to the challenge on Monday. They had just enough and edged out the Bears 2-0.
Not much got past Jeovanna Carter, who gave up just a hit and racked up 17 Ks to keep Central off the board.
At the plate, Gulf saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lillian Patrias, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs. That's the most runs Patrias has posted since back in March.
Gulf has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 11-12 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Hudson, their victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-9.
Gulf's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Hudson hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .350. It's a different story for Gulf, though, as they've only averaged .228. Will they be able to contain Hudson's hitters?
Hudson beat Gulf 5-1 in their previous meeting on April 10th. Will the Cobras repeat their success, or do the Buccaneers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
