Northridge is 0-10 against Clearfield since March of 2018 but things could change on Thursday. The Knights will be playing in front of their home fans against the Falcons at 3:30 p.m. Northridge is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.1 runs per game this season.
Northridge took a 12-run loss the last time they faced off against Roy, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Knights had just enough and edged out the Royals 7-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Knights have posted since March 10th.
Aubrey Solomon looked comfortable as she tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit.
At the plate, Kiersten Carbone was excellent, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, after only two runs in their last match, Clearfield made sure to put some runs up on the board against Viewmont on Tuesday. The Falcons put the hurt on the Vikings with a sharp 18-4 win. The Falcons might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five games by ten runs or more this season.
Jenna Lloyd made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off eight hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-5.
In other batting news, Alexandra Bingham was a standout: she went 3-for-5 with four RBI, one run, and one double. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Skylar Davis, who scored four runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4.
Clearfield was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .459. They are 6-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Clearfield is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.5 runs over those games. As for Northridge, their win bumped their record up to 5-6.
Thursday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Northridge hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .324. However, it's not like Clearfield struggles in that department as they've averaged .387. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Northridge couldn't quite get it done against Clearfield when the teams last played back in March as they fell 15-10. Will the Knights have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other softball content.
