It was a good run, but the Carroll Tigers unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak on Thursday. They took a 52-48 hit to the loss column at the hands of Sotomayor. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Carroll came into the contest with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 275th, while Sotomayor is ranked 639th).
Despite the loss, Carroll had strong showings from Milo Gonzales, who scored 12 points along with 4 steals, and Jacob Longoria, who scored 17 points along with 5 rebounds. Gonzales has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last five times he's played. Another player making a difference was Braedon Gomez, who scored 8 points along with 9 rebounds.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Sotomayor to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jarrell Jarmon, who scored 16 points. Latrell Hoover was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 13 points and 13 rebounds.
Carroll's loss dropped their record down to 5-1. As for Sotomayor, their win bumped their record up to 5-7.
Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing Roma the next time they take the court. Sotomayor will head out to face Roma at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, while Carroll will host them at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday.
