Baseball Game Preview: Berea Pirates vs. Floyd Central Jaguars

The Berea Pirates will head out to take on the Floyd Central Jaguars at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Berea is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.1 runs per game this season.

While Berea didn't have the best season last year (they finished 10-18), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They blew past Menifee County 25-6 on Wednesday. Winning may never get old, but the Pirates sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.

Tommie Banderman was a standout: he went 3-for-4 with seven RBI, three runs, and two doubles. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Nathan Prophitt, who got on base in all five of his plate appearances with four runs, three RBI, and one triple.

For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Floyd Central and Pike County Central meet (four straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Tuesday. The Jaguars fell just short of the Hawks by a score of 3-2. Having soared to a lofty 11 runs in the game before, the Jaguars couldn't push the score so high this time.

Floyd Central saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Grant Jenkins, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.

Berea's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-3. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 16.7 runs over those games. As for Floyd Central, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last seven contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-6 record this season.

Floyd Central's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Berea has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .513.
