The Bolton Central Eagles will head out on the road to take on the Schroon Lake Wildcats at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Bolton Central is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.4 runs per game this season.
Bolton Central took a loss when they played away from home on Wednesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They won by a run and slipped past Lake Placid 4-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Eagles have posted since May 18, 2024.
Jace Hubert spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three runs (all of which were unearned) on three hits and racked up nine Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Bolton Central saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jaxon Egloff, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI. William Hens also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Meanwhile, Schroon Lake got the win against Boquet Valley on Friday by a conclusive 13-3. The Wildcats might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three matchups by nine runs or more this season.
Lucas LaPerle made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over 3.1 innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits (and only one walk). LaPerle was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Julian Porcaro was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Schroon Lake is undefeated when Porcaro posts three or more hits, but 1-4 otherwise. Elijah Melville was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one run and one RBI.
Schroon Lake kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in four consecutive games.
Bolton Central has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-4-1 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Schroon Lake, the win got them back to even at 4-4.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Bolton Central has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.3 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Schroon Lake struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8.4 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
