Banquete is 2-8 against San Diego since December of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Banquete Bulldogs are on the road again and plays the San Diego Vaqueros at 7:30 p.m. on February 9th. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the pair posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Banquete scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Friday. They enjoyed a cozy 56-40 win over Hebbronville. The team's offensive explosion also rewarded Banquete with their most commanding win of the season.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Banquete to victory, but perhaps none more so than Logan Blanchard, who scored nine points along with four steals. Another player making a difference was Damien Jenkins, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten rebounds.
Meanwhile, San Diego stacked a tenth blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard on Tuesday. They blew past Hebbronville 69-43. Given San Diego's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 672nd, while Hebbronville is ranked 1574th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
San Diego got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Estevan R barrientes out in front who scored 21 points. R barrientes is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 18 or more in the last three games he's played. Ryan Casas was another key contributor, scoring 15 points.
Banquete's victory ended a 20-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 3-21. As for San Diego, their win was their eighth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 25-7.
Banquete was dealt a bruising 60-20 loss at the hands of San Diego in their previous meeting back in January. Can Banquete avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
