The Herington Railroaders's game two weeks ago was a tough loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Thursday. They claimed a resounding 69-40 win over Peabody-Burns on the road. With that victory, Herington brought their scoring average up to 51.3 points per game.
Herington was led to victory by Mason Mortensen and Tyus Becker. Mortensen scored 25 points along with nine rebounds, while Becker almost dropped a triple-double on 16 points, 12 rebounds, and nine steals. Becker is absolutely dominating the steal category: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season. Kwinton Barlow-Mckenna was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with seven rebounds.
Peabody-Burns' loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Aiden Hurst, who scored six points along with seven rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Dalton Philpott, who scored ten points along with two steals.
Even though they lost, Peabody-Burns smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Herington's win bumped their record up to 3-4. As for Peabody-Burns, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-7.
Herington won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Elyria Christian at 7:30 p.m. on January 19th. Elyria Christian is coming into the contest hot, having won their last nine games. As for Peabody-Burns, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Chase County at 7:00 p.m. Chase County presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Peabody-Burns in Kansas (Chase County is ranked 132nd, while Peabody-Burns is ranked 339th).
