The St. Edward Beavers suffered their biggest defeat yet this season on Friday. They were outmatched by Santee at home and fell 80-30. St. Edward was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 55-17.
When it comes to explaining why St. Edward lost, one person who can't be blamed is Anthony Reader. Despite the final result, he scored 16 points along with two steals. That was a full 53.3% of St. Edward's points, marking the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Marcos Paez, who scored four points.
This is the second loss in a row for St. Edward and nudges their season record down to 3-8. As for Santee, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 8-3.
St. Edward will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Fullerton at 6:00 p.m. on January 17th. Fullerton is hoping to put an end to a four-game streak of away losses. Santee will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on St. Mary's at 7:00 p.m. on January 16th. St. Mary's is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
