Potomac Senior had lost four games at home, but after bumping their record up to 4-10 on Friday that streak is in the rearview. They were the clear victors by a 30-14 margin over the Gar-Field Red Wolves. The Panthers' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Ericka Hampson was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out 13 batters over five innings while giving up five earned (and nine unearned) runs off eight hits. Those 13 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Zuri Coleman, who went a perfect 5-for-5 with one home run, eight RBI, and five runs. Those eight RBI gave her a new career-high. Kristian Caldwell was another key player, getting on base in all six of her plate appearances with four stolen bases, four runs, and two RBI.
Potomac Senior always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .783. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
As for Gar-Field, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-14. Even if they couldn't come away with the win, the high-scoring effort was a great turnaround for their hitters, which had struggled int the games prior.
On Gar-Field's side, Ariana Biddle led a balanced group of hitters, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four runs, and two stolen bases. That home run marked the first that Biddle has launched this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Zuniya Chapman, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs.
Coming up, Potomac Senior will venture away from home to square off against Charles J. Colgan at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Panthers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Sharks have averaged an impressive 8.2 runs per game this season. Gar-Field does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
