East Jessamine is 1-6 against Woodford County since March of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Jaguars will be playing in front of their home fans against the Yellowjackets at 6:00 p.m.
Frederick Douglass hit East Jessamine with a four-run third inning on Tuesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Jaguars took a 9-4 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Broncos. The Jaguars have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Hillary Stansbury put in work no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Furthermore, she didn't allow a single earned run, the first time she has blanked an opponent over her last three games. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs.
In other batting news, Kylee Oliver made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with three RBI.
Meanwhile, Woodford County got the win against Henry Clay on Wednesday by a conclusive 7-1. The result was nothing new for the Yellowjackets, who have now won eight matchups by six runs or more so far this season.
Like East Jessamine, Woodford County also got a great game from a two-way player: Sophia Gannon. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. Gannon was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base and two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March.
In other pitching news, Kylie Stamper looked comfortable as she tossed three innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 14 consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, Addie Bryant was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Maddie Buntain was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one home run.
Woodford County is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 11-9-1 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.6 runs on average over those games. As for East Jessamine, they now have a losing record of 12-13.
Thursday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. East Jessamine hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .342. However, it's not like Woodford County struggles in that department as they've averaged .339. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
