Speedway and Cascade are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2016, but likely not for long. The Sparkplugs will face off against the Cadets at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Speedway is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.6 runs per game this season.
Thursday just wasn't the day for Speedway's offense. They came up short against Triton Central on Thursday, falling 6-0. The loss continues a trend for the Sparkplugs in their meetings with the Tigers: they've now lost four in a row.
Speedway saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Mallory Short, who went 1-for-3 with one double.
Meanwhile, it can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Cascade had no problem doing just that on Monday. Everything went their way against the Patriots as they made off with an 11-1 victory. The win was familiar territory for the Cadets, who have now won 13 matchups in a row.
Grace Gray made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 15 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.
In other batting news, Caitlin Gryszowka was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with four RBI and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since May 1st. Another player making a difference was Ava Allen, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.
Cascade kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in 13 consecutive games.
Cascade's victory bumped their record up to 19-5. As for Speedway, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-9.
Speedway suffered a grim 10-0 defeat to Cascade in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can the Sparkplugs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
