The Mountain View Academy Mustangs will look to defend their home court on Monday against the More Knights at 5:30 p.m. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Mountain View Academy has struggled recently with nine losses in a row, while More will arrive with five straight victories.
On Thursday, it was a hard-fought contest, but Mountain View Academy had to settle for a 41-39 loss against DCP Alum Rock. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Mountain View Academy in their matchups with DCP Alum Rock: they've now lost four in a row.
The losing side was boosted by Christopher Mercado, who scored 19 points along with six steals. It was the first time this season that he scored 15 or more points. Another player making a difference was Ricardo Malo, who scored ten points along with two steals.
Meanwhile, More strolled past KIPP San Jose Collegiate with points to spare on Thursday, taking the game 52-34.
Tim Selway continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double on 12 points and 14 rebounds. He hasn't dropped below nine rebounds for five straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Vince Cortese, who scored 12 points along with four steals.
Mountain View Academy's loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 3-12. As for More, they are on a roll lately: they've won 13 of their last 14 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 17-6 record this season.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Mountain View Academy have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 26.2 rebounds per game. However, it's not like More struggles in that department as they've been averaging 37.7 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Mountain View Academy was dealt a bruising 75-36 loss at the hands of More in their previous matchup back in December of 2023. The matchup was all but decided by halftime, at which point Mountain View Academy was down 44-22.
