Saint James has gone a perfect 10-0 against Trinity Presbyterian recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Trojans will take on the Wildcats at 4:00 p.m. Saint James' pitching crew has only allowed 1.8 runs per game this season, so Trinity Presbyterian's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Saint James' pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. Everything went their way against Brewbaker Tech as they made off with a 10-0 victory. Considering the Trojans have won 16 contests by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
The result came thanks to Emily Needham's shutout, as she gave up just a hit.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Tatiana Shuford, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. Ava Stanford was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-3.
Saint James always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .571. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Brewbaker Tech only posted an OBP of .118.
Meanwhile, Trinity Presbyterian hadn't done well against Alabama Christian Academy recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Wildcats had just enough and edged out the Eagles 8-7. The win was nothing new for the Wildcats as they're now sitting on three straight.
Marley Sharpless made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching seven innings while giving up four earned (and three unearned) runs off eight hits. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 3-for-4.
In other batting news, Evie Knight was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-3. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Emory Harris, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI.
Saint James pushed their record up to 34-6 with the victory, which was their 15th straight at home dating back to last season. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.3 runs over those games. As for Trinity Presbyterian, they now have a winning record of 9-8.
Trinity Presbyterian's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Thursday. Saint James has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Trinity Presbyterian, though, as they've been averaging only 2.5 strikeouts. Will Saint James keep running through batters, or will the Wildcats buck the trend?
Everything went Saint James' way against Trinity Presbyterian in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, as Saint James made off with an 11-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Trojans since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
