The Apple Valley Sun Devils and the Western Pioneers squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but sadly the Apple Valley Sun Devils had to settle for second. Apple Valley was beaten by Western 49-19. Apple Valley's loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.
Despite the loss, Apple Valley had strong showings from Xavier Salazar, who rushed for 53 yards and two touchdowns, and Zyron Belcher, who rushed for 100 yards on only 12 carries.
Western's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Anthony Luna, who threw for 147 yards and three touchdowns, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. Luna has been hot recently, having posted three or more passing touchdowns the last seven times he's played. Joshua Faulkner got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Western's defense and their six sacks. Jj Amezcua was especially locked on to Apple Valley's QB and sacked him three times.
Apple Valley's loss dropped their record down to 6-5. As for Western, their win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-1.
Apple Valley does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Western also has no future games currently scheduled.
