After four games on the road, Alexander Central is heading back home. The Alexander Central Cougars and the South Iredell Vikings will face off at 7:30 p.m. on December 15th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.
On Tuesday, Alexander Central came up short against Central Davidson and fell 61-53. While losing is never fun, Alexander Central can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 308th, while Central Davidson is ranked 40th).
Alexander Central's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Carter Fortner, who scored 21 points, and Jayon Connor who scored 18 points. That's the first time this season that Connor scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Chad Lasher, who scored eight points.
Alexander Central struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only four offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, South Iredell's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their fifth straight loss. They took a serious blow against North Lincoln, falling 103-59. South Iredell was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 57-29.
Alexander Central now has a losing record at 4-5. As for South Iredell, their loss dropped their record down to 1-7.
Alexander Central took their victory against South Iredell in their previous matchup last Tuesday by a conclusive 66-40. Does Alexander Central have another victory up their sleeve, or will South Iredell turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
