Softball Recap: Make It Three in a Row for Orleans

Orleans had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Barr-Reeve Vikings on Monday, sneaking past 6-5. The win was familiar territory for the Bulldogs, who have now won three matchups in a row.

Izzie Rutherford spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned runs on 12 hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 16 consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Ava Cooper was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one home run the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Elizabeth Mahan, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run.

Orleans' victory bumped their record up to 19-6. As for Barr-Reeve, they moved to 13-7 with that loss, which also ended their five-game winning streak.

Looking ahead, Orleans will square off against Shoals at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Bulldogs are facing the Jug Rox at the right time seeing as the Jug Rox are stuck on a 14-game losing streak. Barr-Reeve does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
