The Pelham Hornets can now show off eight landslide victories after their most recent game on Tuesday. They breezed by Irwin County on the road to the tune of 63-30. Given Pelham's advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 251st, while the Indians are ranked 508th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Pelham was led to victory by Truth Wimberly and Sariyah Chester. Wimberly almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 14 assists, while Chester went 6 for 9 from beyond the arc en route to 30 points and 0 assists. Chester is trending in the right direction, as she's improved her point production for five games straight. Ja'Kieria Frazier was another key contributor, scoring seven points.
Several Indians players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Ziyah Robinson, who scored six points along with two steals and two blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Brooklyn Gordon, who scored four points along with ten rebounds and three steals.
The win (which was Pelham's fourth in a row) raised their record to 12-6. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.3 points per game. As for Irwin County, they still haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-19.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Pelham will take on the Raiders at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday. Hopefully Bacon County focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 25 on Friday. As for Irwin County, they won't have much time to rest: their next game is against the Trojans at 6:00 p.m. on January 31st. Coffee is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 53.5 points per game this season.
