It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Garfield had no problem doing just that on Friday. They put the hurt on the Prairie Falcons with a sharp 10-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Bulldogs, who have now won 19 matchups by seven runs or more so far this season.
Garfield got a great performance from Sammy Breckenridge as she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out six over five innings pitched. Breckenridge has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Joie Cunningham, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. That's the most hits she has posted over her last 11 contests. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaitlyn Washington, who went 2-for-4 with four RBI and one run.
The win (which was Garfield's third in a row) raised their record to 23-6. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.7 runs over those games. As for Prairie, their defeat dropped their record down to 16-7.
As of now, neither Garfield nor the Falcons have any future games scheduled.
