The Triton Hawks are taking a road trip to take on the Cape Fear Colts at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Triton is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Everything went their way against E.E. Smith on Tuesday as Triton made off with a 16-1 win. The victory continues a trend for the Hawks in their matchups with the Golden Bulls: they've now won eight in a row.
Alan Hinson made a big impact no matter where he played. He tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, he gave up only zero earned runs, the fewest he's had since back in April of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing Two bases. while going 2-for-4. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other pitching news, Rhett Alphin looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single hit and allowed only one earned run while striking out 11 over four innings pitched. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in strikeouts.
Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Chase Sewell, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Ashton Dawson also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.
Triton always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .543. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Cape Fear had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Tuesday. They never let the Falcons get on the board and left with a 19-0 win. That looming 19-0 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Colts yet this season.
Chris Serbio was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Serbio was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.
In other batting news, Landon Underwood was a standout: he scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances. Brycen Talley was another key player, scoring four runs and stealing a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.
Cape Fear pushed their record up to 4-3 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.5 runs over those games. As for Triton, they now also have a winning record of 4-3.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Wednesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Triton has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.1 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Cape Fear struggles in that department as they've been averaging 2.7 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Triton skirted past Cape Fear 4-3 in their previous meeting two weeks ago. The rematch might be a little tougher for Triton since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
