The New London Whalers entered their tilt with the Windham Whippets with five consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with six. New London walked away with a 59-48 win over Windham on Wednesday. That result was just more of the same for these two, as New London also won the last time the pair played back in January of 2023.
When it comes to explaining why Windham lost, one person who can't be blamed is Jaelize Rivera. Despite the final result, she scored 19 points along with five assists and five rebounds. Rivera continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Hailey Flores, who scored six points along with six assists and two steals.
New London pushed their record up to 14-3 with that win, which was their third straight on the road. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.7 points per game. As for Windham, their defeat ended a 13-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 15-4.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. New London's road trip will continue as they head out to face Norwich Free Academy at 7:00 p.m. on February 9th. Hopefully Norwich Free Academy focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up eight last Monday. As for Windham, they will head out on the road to challenge Griswold at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Griswold will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Connecticut Rankings (they are ranked 139th, while Windham is ranked 30th).
