Softball Game Preview: San Dieguito Academy Mustangs vs. Oceanside Pirates

The San Dieguito Academy Mustangs will head out on the road to square off against the Oceanside Pirates at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. San Dieguito Academy is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.1 runs per game this season.

San Dieguito Academy came out on top against Canyon Crest Academy on Tuesday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run sixth inning. The Mustangs walked away with a 6-2 victory over the Ravens. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Mustangs.

Lauryn McGarry was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 14 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Willow Wright, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI and one stolen base. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high.

Meanwhile, Oceanside entered their tilt with El Camino on Tuesday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 7-6 W against the Wildcats.

Seaven Fuimaono was incredible, going 2-for-4 with four stolen bases, two runs, and one double. Cerah Austin also deserves some recognition as she scored her first run of the season.

Oceanside picked up their first road win, bumping their record up to 8-10. As for San Dieguito Academy, their record is now 13-4-1.

San Dieguito Academy came out on top in a nail-biter against Oceanside when the teams last played two weeks ago, sneaking past 6-5. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Mustangs since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
