Rogers is 8-2 against Monticello since December of 2014, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Thursday. The Rogers Royals will head out on the road to face off against the Monticello Magic at 7:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Last Tuesday, Rogers escaped with a win against Elk River by the margin of a single free throw, 62-61. Given Rogers' advantage in MaxPreps' Minnesota basketball rankings (they are ranked 54th, while Elk River is ranked 229th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Meanwhile, this season hasn't been kind to Monticello, who are still winless after their fifth matchup. They suffered a rough 85-63 defeat at the hands of St. Michael-Albertville on Tuesday.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Patrick Shobe, who scored 18 points along with five rebounds. Those 18 points set a new season-high mark for him. Another player making a difference was Trevon Singer, who scored 20 points along with five assists.
Rogers pushed their record up to 6-1 with that victory, which was their third straight on the road. As for Monticello, their loss dropped their record down to 0-5.
Rogers didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Monticello when the teams last played back in February of 2019, but they still walked away with a 59-55 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Rogers since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
